5 Creative Ways to Grill this Season

II5_5181As the weather continues to warm up, it’s time to bring out the grill and get the grilling season started! Hamburgers and hot dogs are great go-to classics, but why not shake things up a bit this season with some of these tasty ideas?

  1. Watermelon - Create a flavorful blend of sweet and savory by grilling this refreshing summer fruit. Brush slices with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and grill for about 5 minutes per side until caramelized. Grilled watermelon makes for a diverse dish that can be added to salads for an extra pop of flavor, eaten on its own drizzled with honey, combined with feta on a skewer, or you can even try this Watermelon Burger recipe from the New York Times.

  1. Hearty Greens - Add an extra note of char and crunch to your salads by grilling hearty greens like romaine lettuce, endive, and/or cabbage. Halve the heads, brush with oil, and grill over medium high heat.

  2. Cake - Throw cake slices onto the grill to add a delicious caramelized crunch to this sweet treat. Brush slices of angel food cake or pound cake with melted butter and top with ice cream or grilled peaches for the perfect dessert.

  3. Cheese - For a mess-free, oozy, gooey, smoky, and tasty appetizer, lightly oil thick cheeses like Camembert, aged Provolone, or Halloumi, and grill over medium-high heat. Serve as part of a cheese plate with fruits and crusty bread or crackers for the perfect starter.

  4. Pineapple – Tame the acidity and concentrate the sweetness of pineapples by grilling it either halved or sliced. Enjoy with coconut sorbet, added to a blended cocktail, or you can try this delicious Grilled Pineapple with Brown Sugar Rum Sauce recipe.
